The brainchild of sisters, Neha Sharma and Mallika Sharma, The Leather Laundry is a unique laundry service that caters exclusively to leather products.

The Leather Laundry offers professional cleaning, colouring, repairing and restoration services for leather apparel, accessories and shoes (basically everything leather). Besides laundry services, they also provide customisation services (like embossing of names, initials, one-liners etc. & are also experimenting with bespoke/made-to-order leather apparel. Their dedicated team of expert technicians aims at using environment friendly practices, equipment and processes to ensure the highest quality cleaning of leather products.
Based out of New Delhi, the parent company (a family enterprise) is one of India’s leading manufacturers and exporters of leather apparel and accessories & have been in the leather industry for 30 solid years. Having worked with some of the most coveted brands spanning over several continents, they take pride in claiming that they have the finest technical know-how of leather in the country.
TLL is a second-generation initiative that is resolutely committed towards boosting the existing foundation and exploring newer horizons through focus, innovation and creativity.
Besides having all the synergies and technical know-how/expertise in place, another factor that propelled her to start this unique service was the gaping dearth of professional leather care technicians in India. She had often heard people complaining that it takes months for them to have their branded leather possession repaired or restored.
Being an environmentalist at heart, she also took immediate liking to the concept of a laundry service for leather. Reason being, that by offering to clean, repair and care for leather, they are dissuading people from discarding their leather gear. This reduces wastefulness and conserves the environment (as leather processing entails a lot of water consumption and air pollution). Thus TLL, is also a socially responsible initiative that tacitly reduces the impact of growing consumerism and fast fashion.
TLL customer segment is a niche market of educated and discerning consumers who seek quality, believe in reducing wastefulness and practice ethical consumerism.
What the founder has to say…
“The concept of leather care is still at a nascent stage in India. I would not say that the idea is completely novel/unique. There are a few Indian players dabbling with this concept already. However, I feel no idea is unique per say! How you package and sell the end product/service to the consumer is what really matters! Competition for me has neither been a deterrent, nor a motivator,” said Mallika Sharma, CEO & founder of TLL.
She added, “my only focus area is “quality”, and I intend to provide good quality service that is timely, efficient, durable and courteous. I already have a lot of people coming to me, with precious leather possessions from their grandparents’ times (which have great sentimental value attached to them), seeking advise/consultation on preservation/restoration techniques.”
Completely self-funded venture for now, TLL’s future funding possibilities are totally contingent on how they plan to diversify and grow over time.
Future plans..
TLL’s key milestones for the next one-year would only be to focus on excellent quality and timely deliveries. They will try to get as much traction as they can in Delhi/NCR and in other metro cities through their brand partners. They have tied up with 3 brands from Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, who have exclusive rights to market them in their respective cities.
The company is in talks with 2 other brands, and the idea now would be to tie up with, as many brands as possible, so that brands can direct all the leather care needs of their customers to them.
